In honor of International Baby Wearing week, here’s my take on Baby Wearing Twins.
I started baby wearing with the baby K’tan wrap when the babes were about 6 weeks old. I only wore one baby at a time and quickly fell in love with it. I was able to hold a baby and answer emails or eat my lunch and even clean the house. It felt like a new found freedom, a small victory in my daily struggles of being a new twin mommy. We upgraded and bought some baby Bjorn’s for longer walks and loved that too.
When the babes got a little older and heavier, I decided it was time to invest in a “long haul” carrier. Something that would take us well into toddler hood and be versatile with our needs and also be able to tandem wear. We settled on the Lillebaby All Seasons Carriers and love them. We wear them hiking, on neighborhood walks, and tandem at the grocery store.
*I forgot my other baby carrier so our photographer was kind enough to lend me hers for these pictures. She has the CatBirdBaby carrier and I really liked it. Definitely one to consider and it’s less bulky then ours*
Here’s a few tips I’ve learned along the way with baby wearing and tandem baby wearing…
- It’s really important to familiarize yourself with your carrier prior to attempting a tandem carry or carrying in general
- I suggest watching some YouTube reviews for your specific carrier
- Preset your carrier to desired position and then strap your babes in
- Tandem wearing – Put the easy baby on back =)
When I was doing research for tandem baby wearing I didn’t find a lot of resources (especially with my chosen carrier) so I decided to make my own and share with everyone. This is how I load up the babies for tandem carry. In the below video I’m using my Lillebaby carriers and have one set for forward facing and the other for back carry. Enjoy!
